SANTIAM SERVICE INTEGRATION*

is a program of Santiam Hospital that was established in 2017 to serve as a safety-net for area residents. Its unique model brings together service providers across the Santiam Canyon to facilitate resources and information for individuals and families. Much like the network of the LTRG, SIT partners come from all sectors: school districts, law enforcement, local & state governments, faith communities, businesses, non-profits, early childhood providers, community volunteers, and other interested parties. The program coordinates the work of these community providers to identify needs, find solutions, and avoid duplication of services.

When the wildfires displaced thousands of area residents, many went to Service Integration for help. Already established in the community, they accepted hundreds of phone calls a day coordinating basic needs for evacuees. As the smoke cleared and many returned to find their homes destroyed, it was clear a local organization was needed to fill the gaps present in federal and state aid by providing disaster case management services. Service Integration hired two full time disaster case managers in December of 2020, and as of November of 2021 the program includes over 20 full-time staff from a number of co-located partner organizations.

Listen to Program Director and LTRG Case Management Subcommittee Chair Melissa Baurer’s episode on the Mid Valley Cast with Michael Livingston to learn more about Service Integration’s history and role in wildfire recovery.

*In February of 2022, Santiam Service Integration rebranded its wildfire-related assistance to Santiam Disaster Services. Service Integration still exists to meet non wildfire caused needs of the Santiam community.
